Pocket Zoo HD & a Giveaway

Pocket Zoo has come to the iPad in a brand new, HD app and it looks fantastic on the larger iPad screen. Navigation is the same as it was for the iPhone version. You can choose to discover animals on a map on via a list. When you’ve found your favorite animal you’ll find a screen with a large image of the animal and some basic facts. This is where the HD and the iPad really make a difference. The images really shine. Some animals have an accompanying sound file and if that’s the case then you’ll see the sound button is highlighted. Zoo animals also have accompanying videos. These are a great way for children to see the animals in action, interacting with their surroundings.

Some of the Pocket Zoo animals are actually connected to a webcam. Look for a highlighted button button that can take you directly to the webcam feed. The webcam picture can be maximized so it takes up the entire screen and this is another place where the iPad screen really makes an impact. If you’d rather not navigate through all the animals to find the ones that are live on camera then you’ll also find them on a separate list. You’ll notice that the cameras cover zoos from around the world.

Just including the animal facts, photos and videos makes Pocket Zoo a terrific educational animal app but when you add in the animal cameras it really becomes something special. The original iPhone app has always been one of my favorites and I think it’s translated beautifully to the iPad. If you have both devices and you haven’t purchased the app before then I’d suggest going for the new HD version.
