Point Inside Update – Wish List

April 19, 2010

12/7/10 – It’s been just about a year since I originally reviewed the Point Inside app. Below is my first update to the original review. This week I heard about a new feature they’ve included called “Wish List”.  Here are a few bullet points that I’ve received from the developer. Be sure to also check out the new screenshots, looks like this could be a handy, free shopping tool.

  • Point Inside’s Wish List is like having a personal wedding registry in any store, in any mall.
  • Shoppers can now see a product they like, scan the product bar code and add the product to their Wish List, and then post their List to Facebook for friends and family to use this holiday season.
  • The Wish List feature leverages Point Inside’s detailed map and directory information, including more than 250,000 points of interest, for over 750 malls and 100 airports around the world.
  • It is available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users.
  • Shoppers designate the mall, choose an item, select the store, and scan the product – it is all added to their Wish List.
  • If product look-up information is not available, users can add their own item including a product picture, description, price and comments.

***************************

I originally tried out the Point Inside app last November. This app provides a “Smart Map” for shopping malls. At the time I first tested it out I thought it was a great concept but it crashed on me constantly, locking up my iPhone. I tried Point Inside out again this week and they’ve made some updates and improvements. Here’s what’s new and improved.

-Landscape Mode – You can tilt your phone on it’s side and see the mall’s map more easily.

-If you tap on the map it will pull up the name of the store that’s located where you just tapped. Tap on the name of the store and you’ll see the phone number, web address, details about the store and it’s hours.

- You can choose to have the map automatically mark where the restrooms, restaurants and ATM’s are in the mall.

-You can set your location on the map. I didn’t have a chance to actually go to the mall and try out this particular feature so I’m not sure if the icon moves with you or stays in the original spot where you set it.

-With the Search feature you can search for stores and services. It looks like you can also search events and promotions but those options weren’t available in my mall.

-The app no longer crashed on me!

Point Inside has definitely improved and best of all, it’s still free.

I was wondering if this app would work in my town and lo and behold! The picture is of my mall! I don’t know if you live in Idaho, but with all the mall changes in our mall it will be nice to remember where my favorite stores moved too!

One of my favorite parts of getting married was the gift registry, and you’re telling me I can have that for any store? Cool! I already find the Point Inside app useful and can’t wait to make my own Wish List.

What do you think???

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
