Polyhedra is another nifty app that takes a simple concept but adds a couple iPhone twists and viola, you’ve got an addictive game on your hands. The idea is to fill up at least 66% your iPhone screen with shapes. To create a shape you touch the screen. Keep touching and your shape will grow bigger and bigger. Remove your finger and the shape drops to the bottom of your screen. Tilt your phone and the shape will roll and move as it settles to the bottom. The shapes will bounce and roll of each other depending on how you move your phone. Now touch the screen again to create another shape. Sounds easy but there are enemies (little circles) that are floating around the screen. If the shape you are building touches an enemy then it’s out of play. There’s a limited number of shapes that can be used to complete each level so you need to make each one count. Points will be scored depending on how many shapes you drop, how many shapes are left over at the end of a level, how quickly you completed the level and how much of the screen you filled. Polyhedra has different shape “zones” that you can unlock.
A feature that I love is called “Toy Box”. When you’re in the Toy Box you can create any shape you like, move them around, delete them or clear the screen. There are also no enemies in the Toy Box. This is great because it opens Polyhedra up to younger players as well as the more advanced user.
I really like the way Polyhedra incorporates geometry with gravity and physics. It’s one of those apps that’s well thought out, nicely developed, easy to learn and addicting for kids and adults.
