Puzzle Planet

January 6, 2011

Puzzle Planet is a free iPad app for the more advanced jigsaw puzzlers. Puzzles can be played in three difficulty levels and even the easiest level will be tricky enough for elementary school children. You will earn points for how quickly you place the pieces and you can compare your progress on leaderboards. Special “power ups” are available to help you complete the puzzle and earn more points. My favorite one is the magnetic power up. It links different puzzle pieces together so you can place several onto the puzzle at the same time.

The story behind Puzzle Planet is that two travelers from space are wandering around Earth. They will visit three destinations, each one has six puzzles. The destinations include incredible cities, ancient marvels and geological formations. Eighteen puzzles are included in the free app and more can be purchased later on in the app’s “Destination Depot”. The puzzle images are taken from photographs which make the puzzles gorgeous and all the more difficult to solve. Puzzle Planet has a fantastic interface and usability for a free app. I really enjoyed this fast paced take on the jigsaw puzzle. If you have an iPad and enjoy jigsaw puzzles this app is absolutely worth a look.

*Update 6/13/11 – Puzzle Planet is now an universal app and will run on your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Price when Reviewed: Free – additional puzzles are available for $.99

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
