RapDevPro Apps

March 24, 2011

Today I’m taking a look at the apps created by the development company RapDevPro. Randy Ullrich runs the company and many of the apps were inspired by his two young sons. Here’s a list of several of RapDevPro’s offerings:

  • MatchMonstersHD – This is a memory matching game that uses monster pictures on the memory cards. The game can be played in one or two player mode. If you play as one player you’ll release new monsters once reaching a certain score. The HD graphics have been specially created for the iPad giving the monsters that extra dose of frightening clarity. An iPhone version is available and there is also a free version that does contain advertisements.
  • Birdary – BIrdary will tell you more than you ever thought you’d need to know about birds. You’ll learn about well known birds as well as those we hear less about. Birds are depicted with a graphic and you’ll hear a description about them while you look at the picture. You’ll also be able to hear their call. The feature my children most enjoy is being able to mutate birds by combining features from different species to create something new of their own. Birdary contains thirty different birds and there is also a flashcard mode to test your bird knowledge. You can try out a free version of the app, Birdary Free. It contains advertisements and has ten birds.
  • Dinoary – Dinoary is similar to the Birdary app but here the focus is on dinosaurs. Twenty-five dinosaurs are represented and your child can see graphics, read information about the dinosaur, hear their sound and how to pronounce their name. Like in Birdary there is a flashcard test mode and your child can also mutate the dinosaurs to make their own creations. A free version is available with ten dinosaurs and advertisements.
  • Bugary – Same format as Dinoary & Birdary but with creepy crawly bugs. Thirty bugs are available in the paid version and ten in the ad supported free version.
  • iAmCreature – With iAmCreature you can take a face from a photograph and add it to the body of a funny and frightening creature. There’s a troll, hobgoblin, kraken, zombie and bigfoot just to name a few. Ten different backgrounds are also included so your creature can hang out in just the right setting. A cave, disco or bathroom perhaps?

Price when Reviewed: Paid apps are $.99 with most having HD iPad versions for the same price.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
