At last a dress up app that’s just about right for my tween-aged girls. Not too adult and not too babyish, Real Trends seems to strike just the right balance with my girls. Especially my nine year old fashionista. The app lets you choose from several different models. Clothing is sorted into different categories – jackets & coats, tops, dresses, skirts & shorts, pants, handbags, tights, shoes and accessories. The category titles show up around the model so all you need to do is tap on one and the choices appear at the bottom of the screen. You can scroll through the choices and when you make your selection it’s immediately reflected on screen. The selection choices don’t disappear until you go back and this makes it easy to make quick changes so you can get just the right look. Because the categories always appear onscreen it’s an easy thing to switch back and forth between your tops and shoes.
In addition to the clothing and accessories you can also play around with the model’s face. Her hairstyle, eye color, eyebrows, lips, cheeks, eye shadow and eyelashes can all be changed. There are also a few accessories (hats) available. Here again the category names show up on screen around the model and when you tap on one the choices appear at the bottom.
When you’ve styled your model to perfection you’ll have the ability to change the onscreen background. It becomes like a backdrop at a photo shoot. Using a pinching motion you can zoom in and out on screen and you can also drag your model to the position where you’d like her to stand. Once she’s posed you have a camera button that will snap her picture and save it to your camera roll.
I think the reason my girls enjoy Real Trends so much is because it’s easy to use and the clothes are cute and modern. According to the App Store description these are outfits that will be seen on real catwalks. It would be nice to see more options available, some of the categories do feel limited. I like the interface and the fact that you’re not going back and forth from one screen to another as you switch between categories. The user interface feels well designed.
