The Lizard Island: Observation app is the perfect app for your little biologist! With Lizard Island: Observation, kids can learn all about what it takes to be a scientist as they conduct their own research! The Lizard Island: Observation app encourages kids to build their own research and inference skills as they play through an inquiry-based style app. I really enjoyed the way this app functions, and think it would be great for older elementary students, as well as middle school students – but could still be enjoyed by younger children, too!
Through catching, tagging and measuring lizards on the many micro-islands of the Bahamas, kids can learn about island life in a highly interactive world. The app utilizes kinesthetic learning, as kids can catch lizards by circling with their finger or by using the gyroscope tool to grab the lizard. I like how the app features text that is also audio recorded, so that younger children who cannot yet read can still enjoy the app.
There are lots of plants and animals to click on to discover facts. The app is tied in with Common Core standards, as well as Next Generation Science Standards – it was also developed through a collaboration among biologists, artists and teachers. I love the way kids get to keep their own Field Notebook where they can record their own questions, answers and facts they have discovered about all the different plants and animals. There are two levels of difficulty to accommodate a wider age range of players.
I really enjoyed the Lizard Island: Observation app. I think that this app could be enjoyed by both elementary age children and older children. I would definitely recommend this app for any child who has an interest in science and biology!
