Scaredy SOS

December 29, 2011

Scaredy Squirrel is the main character in a series of children’s books by Melanie Watt. Like his name implies, Scaredy has a few things that he’s afraid of, well, actually more than a few. I’ve never read the Scaredy Squirrel books but they sound charming and based on reviews they appear to be a big hit with readers. Now Scaredy has joined the App Store in a new game called Scaredy SOS. In his books Scaredy uses an emergency kit to help him out but in the app he has lost the kit. The player’s job in the game is to move through the levels and collect the kit’s scattered items.

To maneuver through the game players move Scaredy right and left across the screen. They can also help him climb trees and then fly through the air to reach certain items. Scaredy will encounter spiders, poison ivy, unicorns, sea monsters and more. If he comes in contact with something dangerous it will be “game over” but as players help Scaredy collect the emergency kit items the dangers will disappear.

It took me a few runs through the game (and several game overs) to catch on to the gameplay but once I did it was easy to play. I’m sure that children will get the hang of things much sooner than I did. The game’s graphics are done in the style of the Scaredy illustrations and they have a childlike whimsy that I found charming.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
