Have your children (or maybe you?) tried out Scribblenauts before? We have the Nintendo DS game but my kidswere excited to hear that there is an iOS version as well. They’ve been trying it out for me over the past week and have been enjoying the game quite a bit, especially my seven year old son.
If you don’t know Scribblenauts let me give you a quick rundown. The game is made up of a variety of challenges that must be completed by a character named Maxwell. Not everything he needs to solve the problems will be found on the screen which is where you come in. Using your imagination you tell the game what Maxwell needs and it’s then added to the screen so he can use it to solve his problem. It’s a very cool premise that will stretch children’s imaginations. The one thing my children always struggled with on the DS was spelling the words that they wanted to use in the game and that is where the iOS version has made a terrific improvement. If you have an iPhone 4S you can use the keyboard microphone to speak and the game will take your words and turn that into the desired object. Another neat feature is “Shake to Undo”. By shaking your iDevice you remove objects that you have created. Lastly, if you use iCloud you can sync your game between devices and never have to restart a game even if you switch from iPod to iPad.
My children quickly noticed that Scribblenauts Remix uses the same levels from their Super Scribblenauts DS game. That’s because Remix has 40 of the most popular levels from that and the original Scribblenauts game. However, it also has 10 new levels that have been created just for this app. They haven’t seemed to mind playing levels over again and we don’t own the original game so we aren’t repeating too much.
The app is only $.99 right now (normally $2.99) and if your children have never played Scribblenauts before now is a great time to give the game a try. I’m all for games that get children thinking “outside the box” and this has always been one of our favorites.
