Sketchaphone

March 29, 2011

Sketchaphone is part Pictionary, part Telephone and part storytelling. When you put all the parts together you end up with a fun multi-player game. Here’s how you play.

  1. Decide on the number of turns you will be playing for, you can play as few as three or as many as twelve.
  2. Choose to play with one device or use several devices and the service Famigo.
  3. Now one player writes a sentence or a phrase on the game’s screen. Sketchaphone will prompt you to do this and it will even provide random ideas if you find yourself stuck. Once the sentence is written tap submit and pass your device to the next player.
  4. This player will see the sentence and they must create a sketch that illustrates it. When they’re done they submit the drawing and pass the device to the next player.
  5. The third player can see the sketch but not the original sentence. They must write down a sentence or phrase that they think best describes the sketch.
  6. On and on this goes until you reach the number of turns you designated when you began the game. At this point everything is revealed and you can see how far things strayed from the original sentence. The results could be hilarious, that’s all but guaranteed in my house!

Sketchaphone is easy to learn, there aren’t any difficult instructions to master and the app walks you through everything. I like that it can be played together by families of all ages and everyone can use their own individual creativity. I’d never heard of Famigo before but I’m going to do some investigating and see how their service works. It sounds like a terrific service for connecting families together. If you’re looking for something a little different, a creative game that you can play with others, definitely take a look at Sketchaphone.

Have you tried Famigo yet? This game looks really cool, with all the iPhones in the family I think we’d have a blast with this game.

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
