Here’s an app that’s just for fun. Soupface allows you to take two people’s pictures and morph them together, creating a picture of someone who is stunning, unusual or just plain funny looking. As my seven year old likes to say, that’s just weird. You can use your own photos or play around with the twelve celebrity images included in the app’s database.

Soupface makes it easy to put your images together, it’s just a matter of tapping a few buttons. The tricky part comes in making sure your original images are just right. If they’re not, the morph doesn’t work  well. The app is very specific about where the people in your pictures should be looking, what kinds of facial expressions work best and you’ve also got to watch out for the lighting.   When it came to this I was a pretty big failure. My excuse is that it’s due to the fact that my kids are unable to take a serious picture. They are constantly mugging and turning right before I snap the photo. There’s a reason that I didn’t do Christmas card photos this year. The cropping of the original pictures is also key. Again, I failed here because how can you crop a picture that didn’t even begin well in the first place? Soupface explains that it takes practice to get the photos right and I believe it. Read the instructions in the app closely, they’re not just there for filler. They’re important and following them will affect how the app works.

The user reviews in iTunes are all fantastic. It seems like everyone is getting their pictures to work just fine, except for me. Which bugs me more than I’d like and has me determined to keep tweaking my photos (and making my children pose) until I’ve got the system down. Don’t judge this one by my ineptitude!

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
