Speak Piggy! is an app that is designed to teach your child the names and sounds of different animals. The animals are divided into three different “habitats” – world, farm and around the house. You can also view them all together, as one big group. This app has a nice design to it and I found the illustrations to be appealing. My favorite was the monkey. By default the app is set so that you must tap a button at the bottom of the screen to hear the animal’s sound and it’s name. If you go to your iPhone’s general settings you can change this so the name and sound are heard when you tap on the picture of the animal. I think this is more intuitive for young children. According to iTunes more animals are coming soon which is fantastic, adding more animals was one of my suggestions for Speak Piggy! My other suggestion is to add a feature where children could record themselves saying the animal names and making the sounds. It’s a minor suggestion though, overall Speak Piggy! is a great app with a unique feel to it that I appreciated.
