Star Wars Sound Board & Star Wars: The Clone Wars-Shipyards of Doom App Review

I purchased these two apps for my son. He is genetically predetermined to be a Star Wars nut and I’ve had to come up to speed to learn the answers to his countless questions. Plus, I have a fondness for Obi Wan Kenobi. He’s cool under pressure and does everything with style.

I thought the Star Wars Sound Board app looked like fun. It’s an app version of the sound board found on starwars.com. The app was only $.99 but I was expecting much more then we got for the money. There are sixteen sound bites that you can play around with. You’ll get quotes from C-3PO, Jabba the Hut, Yoda and of course Darth Vader breathing. But all you do is tap on the character’s photo and hear the sound bite. There’s no way to mix them up or do anything really exciting. My guy has not been impressed. I say save your dollar and go explore the soundboards at www.starwars.com instead.

The second Star Wars app that I purchased was Star Wars: The Clone Wars- Shipyards of Doom. This is a graphic novel app based on the Clone Wars movie and cartoon series. My son absolutely loves checking out these graphic novels from the library. To have one on my iPhone has been fantastic. It’s very basic, there is no audio and you swipe from screen to screen, but the graphics are very well done. The app was a bit pricey ($3.99) but my guy is really enjoying looking it all over. Plus $3.99 is cheaper than the library fines I’ve paid on some of his Star Wars books.

So I am split on the Star Wars apps. Yes to the Clone Wars graphic novel and no to the Sound Board. On a side note my girls had a fascinating conversation about Yoda at dinner the other night. My eldest has determined that Yoda is the child of Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog. Her reasoning is actually pretty sound. Yoda is a Muppet and he sounds like Miss Piggy. Plus he is green which means Kermit must have been involved somehow. My husband declared it blasphemy but I think she might be on to something…..
