Sweet Dreams, Baby
Written by The iPhone MomSweet Dreams, Baby is a simple app that features seven different types of white noise. To use this app you would start it, choose a sound and then leave the iPhone next to where your baby was sleeping. Right now at our house we’re using a fancy white noise maker called the bathroom fan. We turn it on and open the door and hope that it drowns out the noise from the rest of the house. It’s works very well when the older kids are at school. After 4:00 arrives it become less effective for some reason. With this app you too can have a fan noise and a vacuum cleaner, hairdryer, washing machine, dishwasher, breast pump and running shower. Select a sound and press play, it’s that simple. You can also set a timer for how long the sound should run. If you exit the app then the noise will turn off. I played name that sound with my husband and he was able to identify them all with the exception of dishwasher and breast pump. He thought the dishwasher was rain and the breast pump sounded like nothing he’d ever heard before.
To drown out any loud background noise you’ll have to turn your phone’s volume and the volume within the app all the way up. I’m still not sure it’d be enough to cancel the other noises out completely. At least not in my house. (A disclaimer: my house is not large and my children are not quiet, so take my statement for what it’s worth!) One last bit of advice if you try this app – don’t forget to put your iPhone into airplane mode. Wouldn’t that be great if your baby was lulled to sleep only to be woken up by your phone ringing???
