Symbol6 Redux

January 12, 2011

Symbol6 Redux is a fast paced game that mixes shape matching with finger swiping, tapping and a lot of quick thinking. The game is extremely easy to learn but becomes challenging as you advance to higher levels. This is an ideal family game because it has three levels, one for children and then a normal and extreme mode. I’m a big fan of apps that adapt themselves so that entire families can easily play the same game.

Now for the “how to play” details. In the center of your screen you have a hexagon with seven tiles. Each tile displays a different color and shape. Tiles will come in from the sides of the screen. They will also display shapes. You must rearrange the tiles on the hexagon until the matching shape lines up with the incoming tile. When you make a match you earn points. Tiles begin coming several at a time and at faster speeds the longer you play. As you advance you’ll have to begin using your device’s accelerometer to turn the hexagon away from destructive tiles.

Symbol6 Redux is integrated with Apple’s Game Center which means you’ll be able to share your achievements and scores with friends. In addition the game tracks your personal high scores. Symbol Redux for the iPhone is currently free. The HD version for the iPad costs $2.99. This is the version that I tried and my family liked having the shapes up on the large screen.

My opinion? Symbol6 Redux is a well done game that works for a wide variety of players. If you’re looking for a game that your entire family can play this is a good one.

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
