Symmetry Shuffle (iPad)

November 1, 2010

Hooray for the Symmetry Shuffle! This is an awesome app that feels like a giant puzzle game but is really all about honing Math skills. Symmetry Shuffle focuses on the creation of symmetrical images, using flipping, rotating and sliding. The game presents outlines in a puzzle and you must use one original image to create symmetrical ones that will fit into the outlines. Your goal is to flip, rotate and slide things around in as few moves as possible.

Symmetry Shuffle has two different game modes to choose from – Solve or Race. In Solve mode you’ll be able to solve puzzles without a time limit. There are twelve puzzle designs that can be played in either easy or hard levels of difficulty. Five different layout options are available for your game board. In Race mode you are fighting to solve a puzzle before the time runs out. When you successfully complete levels you can earn bonus time for as you move to more advanced puzzles.

I found Symmetry Shuffle to be a terrific blend of education and entertainment. The puzzles are challenging and the concept of symmetry is being solidly reinforced. All in all a very well done iPad app for older children and their parents!

Chalk Walk

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
