Synaps Powercase

October 5, 2011

Back in the first quarter of the year I was sent a product sample of the Synaps Powercase. Through a goof in scheduling on my part and then a busy summer with my kids I haven’t had a chance to give it a proper review until now. It’s long overdue because the case is extremely handy. The Powercase has been designed to extend the lifetime of your iPhone’s battery. You charge the case and then the case charges your iPhone. We’ve tried it out and it really does work. Very well. The case comes with a Lithium Polymer battery and will give you approximately 6 more hours of talk time, 5 hours on the internet, 9 hours watching video and an impressive 36 hours of audio. Here’s the one that got me – up to 270 extra hours of Standby Time. When you charge the battery you’ll see four blue lights on the back of the case. They’ll light up indicating how fully charged the case is.

If you’re like me then you’re thinking, alright so what does this battery powered case look like? Is it going to take my sleek iPhone and turn it into a clunky device? The case does add some bulk and weight to your phone but not a tremendous amount. The case is curved so it’s fatter at the bottom where the battery sits. Holding it felt a bit like holding a cordless phone. It would take me a little getting used to but it’s not a deal breaker when it comes to using it. The case is going to cover up your rear camera so if you want to use that you’ll need to pop the top of the case up. The designers have thought of this scenario because they made it easy to do.

If you’re someone who is constantly running through their iPhone battery then a Powercase might be something to consider. For me the benefit comes in having a battery backup. This summer we took a vacation to Disneyland and there were several times when my husband said to me, “We should have brought the Powercase.” Our phones took a hit between the photo taking and texting across the park. We ran through our batteries and by the afternoons we were out of luck and out of batteries. Lesson learned and I’ve decided to keep the case and USB in my car. I can charge it with a power adapter and if I’m ever in a situation where I’m running low on batteries and I don’t have my charger then I’ve got a backup. Regardless, the case is definitely going on vacation with us from now on.

Synaps is a British company and you can see the Powercase on their website. They also link to online outlets that carry the product. I’m not certain of it’s availability in the United States so this might be a product that’s just for my overseas readers.

Here is a link to the Powercase on the Amazon.com UK website.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
