Typing Sebastian

My sixth grader just finished her first dedicated Keyboarding class. At the beginning of the semester she thought there was no way she’d ever pass the “no look” test. But what do you know, after months of forty-five minute long practices she got the hang of it. I know I’m thankful for the Keyboarding classes [...]

RegaSpellBee

RegaSpellBee puts your child into a spelling bee, with a bee who says spelling words. A friendly bee (I have to say that because my children are deathly afraid of bees) says a word and your child must then type in that word, one letter at a time. If they get the word correct they [...]

Chester’s Spelling Farm

Chester’s Spelling Farm combines fun cartoony farm scenes with scrambled letters that look like refrigerator magnets. Your child will need to take letters and drag them into the correct order to spell what they see on the screen. Words vary in length from COW to BARN and so on. There are fifteen different farm scenes [...]

Super Why!

There are some children’s television shows (they shall remain nameless) that I just can’t stand. My poor deprived children go to school and tell their friends that they’re not allowed to watch them and they’re always at a loss for an answer when their friends ask them why. “Because my mom thinks they’re stupid” isn’t [...]

Flash Bee

Flash Bee is a flashcard app that features both math and word flashcards. It will allow you to create different “student” profiles so you can use the app with more than one child and I’m always a big fan of this type of feature. There are several buttons on the bottom of the screen that [...]

Kids Flashcards: See, Hear & Spell (Wildlife Series)

The See, Hear & Spell app is a set of flashcards designed to help your child learn animal names and/or how to spell them. I tried out the Wildlife Series, but there are also  Ocean Life, Fruit & Vegetables, and Shapes and Transportation series available. The idea behind the flashcards is simple. You will see [...]

abcTris Animals

Here’s an educational app that’s put a twist on the classic game of Tetris. The goal is to correctly spell out animal names from letters that are falling onto the screen.  On the screen is a picture of an animal and it’s name is spelled out at the bottom of the screen. Letters begin to [...]

iCanRead

Here’s another great spelling/reading app for early readers. iCanRead helps your child learn to spell and read by having them work with letter “magnets” on a fridge. The idea is simple, drag the letters into the correct order underneath a picture that is hanging on the fridge. The app can be setup to display answer [...]

Look & Spell

Look & Spell is a spelling app that uses a dial for spelling the words. (It’s like the date/time dial on the iPhone calendar.) You’ll have the option of spelling three letter or four letter words. Here’s how it works. At the top of the screen is a picture of what you need to spell. [...]

iOS 5.01 Released: Includes Fix For iOS 5.0 Battery Life Issue

iOS 5 Gets Its First Update Thanks to my husband Zack for getting this post out about the new iOS 5.1 release. I’ve yet to install the update…but I’ll be following his instructions below. Shortly after the iPhone 4S hit the market a bug was discovered that severely impacted battery life on those new devices. [...]

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
