The Teacher Sherri from this app’s title is an actual teacher, Sherri Rutman, and she has created a program designed to assist parents of preschoolers. Sherri created an original product called LIFE Bags. A bag holds an item used in a daily activity along with a sheet that will guide parents in talking, reading and writing with their child about the activity. The idea is to make the daily activity an opportunity for learning and growth with your child. LIFE stands for Learning In Families Everyday.
Sherri has recently taken the concepts from her LIFEBags and put them into app form. Teacher Sherri’s LIFEApp provides eight different daily activities. The list ranges from cooking to taking a bath to tying shoes. Once you have selected an activity you’ll be given a guide for how to use that activity as an educational opportunity. There are suggestions for opportunities in the areas of talk, read and write. The suggestions don’t require extensive preparation or supplies. They are all things that can easily be done while you’re in the moment. The app itself has a clean design and is easy to follow.
As a mom I know that my day is filled with teaching opportunities,. My personal struggle is recognizing those moments and taking the time to use them. Having a quick reference for ideas is wonderful. I personally believe that parental involvement is a key part of education and that concept is reenforced and encouraged by Teacher Sherri’s LIFEApp. On a final note, I love the motto that appears on the app’s main screen: Success in school begins at home.

I’d like to try this one, thanks for the offer. It will be interesting to see the usability of this app as far as the lifespan (how long you’ll actually use it). Love the concept as a former preschool teacher and big believer in school success as it relates to active and involved parenting.

This is just the sort of thing I’ve been looking for. I have a 3 year old and almost 2 year old grandkids and am sometimes at a loss for good things to do with them. This would definitely be very useful!

I’ve worked with Teacher Sherri personally and I can tell you first hand she is top notch, and this app will help you get the ball rolling when it comes to talking to your kids. Even though my daughter is only 3, Teacher Sherri’s methods are forcing me to create good communication habits, and the long term pay off to that (I’m thinking teenage years) is invaluable.

Not sure if you’ve picked the winners yet…
If not, I would LOVE to try this app, I have 3 boys in 2nd, Pre-K & a 3yo not in Preschool yet. We are majorly working on how to communicate different things that we use/do on a daily basis. I think this may also help my 2nd grader with ADD who is pretty quiet and reserved when it comes to talking about his day and having conversations with other adults.
