In The Gift a young boy finds a baby that has washed ashore from the ocean. The baby is perfect but the boy cannot get her to open her eyes. He turns to a group of wise, magical creatures called the Oomorels for help. They use their wisdom, magic and everything else they can think of to get the baby to wake up but in the end it is the boy who discovers the answer.
The artwork for The Gift has been done with oil on canvas and it gives the story a wonderful, artistic feeling. Narration is included but children can also read the story quietly to themselves. The different screens have hidden interactions for readers to discover before they may “turn the page”. Music and special sound effects make up the app’s original soundtrack. The Gift even has a theme song of its own. When children have finished the story they can play a game where they tap and slide their fingers on the screen to create music and special effects in a night sky. The price is a bit high but The Gift is an original tale with a great deal of heart.
