I’m bored!” As a mother of four, it gets exhausting trying to come up with new and inventive activities to keep my kids entertained and stimulated. In our home, the past few weeks have been really hard as the summer heat has made it nearly impossible to go outside and play and my stockpile of creative ideas has been depleted. I was overjoyed when I opened up Knoala and saw that it was the solution I was looking for! Knoala is basically a library of age-appropriate activities that is customized for your child. Simply create a profile for your each child that includes their name, age, gender and your relationship to them. You can even add a photo to the profile if you want! Then, like magic, Knoala will pull up a variety of activities that you can do with your child or they can do with a sibling or friend. Some of the activities include things like a pretend tea party complete with dress-ups and even going so far as having you knock on the door and wait to be invited in! There are fun activities that promote academic learning as well such as a number game where you either draw numbers on the ground with chalk or put paper on the floor with numbers on them. Then you make smaller cards with the same number on them. When you hold up a card, your child has to run to the matching number on the ground! Each activity has the amount of time it should take and the skills or behaviors it encourages. The best part is that for the most part, the activities can be done with things you already have around the house. Also, you can bookmark your favorite ideas and they will be saved on your child’s profile for another time. One of my favorite features of this app is the story ideas it gives you. My kids absolutely love books and stories and it is a tradition to read or tell a story before naptime or bedtime. It gets very hard coming up with new story ideas every day! This app does that for you! They are silly combinations that are fun to tell and even more fun for your kids to listen to! Last night I told my boys a story about “A shy rocket ship who wanted a make-over!” They love the ideas and ask me several times throughout the day to pick a story from my iPad to tell them. It is a great way to pass the time while we are driving in the car or shopping in the grocery store. I even told my son one the other day while I was cooking dinner. What a fabulous way to keep your kids entertained and spend some quality time bonding as well! Knoala is pure genius! This app is a must-have for any mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, nanny or babysitter. My oldest daughter is nearing the age when neighbors will start calling her to babysit their kids and I am going to make sure she has this app to help out on babysitting jobs! This app is a great tool for keeping your kids busy but more importantly, it provides ample ways for parents and caregivers to interact with the children in their care and rely less on television and (dare I say it?) mobile devices to entertain them. Plus…the app is FREE!!!! You cannot pass this one up! Knoala is wonderful. A great big thank you from this iPhone Mom for providing such a fabulous app to parents and caregivers!
