The Little Mermaid – Auryn

March 23, 2011

Gorgeous and sophisticated. Those are the words that came to mind as I was reading Auryn’s version of The Little Mermaid. This is the classic as told by Hans Christian Andersen and illustrated by Lisbeth Zwerger. Her illustrations suit the tale perfectly and they look stunning on the iPad, even more so because of the effects that Auryn has added.  As you are reading the story the illustrations and text appear to be underwater. The screen ripples, you can hear water moving and see fish swimming around the screen. When you place your finger on the screen the water will ripple out as if you were touching water. Move your finger back and forth and watch the water swirl and distort the illustrations. When the illustration shows a scene that includes land the water effect only applies to the part of the picture where the water shows. It’s a fabulous effect and so perfect for The Little Mermaid.

This is a substantial story and not for those with a short attention span. It may be read independently or readers can use the accompanying narration. Auryn has done a marvelous job updating this classic story while retaining the essence and feeling of a true Hans Christian Andersen tale.

This week Auryn will be donating $1.00 for every copy of The Little Mermaid to A4CWSN’s iPad4U program. This is a program that is dedicated to providing iPads to children with special needs and their families. More information about this wonderful program can be found on their website: www.a4cwsn.com.

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
