The Tooth That’s on the Loose!

January 17, 2012

The Tooth That’s on the Loose! was written and illustrated by Chris Robertson, an Emmy nominated storyboard artist and director for Nickelodeon. It’s a humorous take on the experience of losing a tooth and my children really enjoyed the illustrations. The tale follows T.B. Wiggly, a tooth that is literally on the loose. Sheriff Tex, the narrator of the story, offers humorous advice on how to catch T.B. and exactly what children should do with him once they’ve got him. I particularly enjoyed the illustration of the tooth fairy leaving a big sack of gold under a pillow. That’ll get my kids’ hopes up!

The Tooth That’s on the Loose! comes in two formats, Read to Me and Touch & Read. The pages have animations and interactions to go along with the story. There are also sound effects to complement the Wild West feeling of it all. When they have finished reading children can color four different illustrations from the story. The only additions I’d make to the app would be to add page turning by swipe (instead of having to tap “next” at the bottom of each screen) and an auto-play option.

I found the humor and style of The Tooth That’s on the Loose to be quite enjoyable. It’s a fun read and would be a great motivator for those children who are hesitant about pulling out that first loose tooth. I know my kids were very nervous and a funny story like this would have helped ease their fears!

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
