Tillie’s Time Shop

January 24, 2012

Tillie’s Time Shop is an interactive story all about time. The story is all about Tillie, a cat who fixes clocks in Tick-Tock Town. There are eleven screens in the story, each with interactive touch points and animations. Three of the screens have full activities that center around time and learning to read clocks. In one activity children will help Tillie fix clocks by putting the numbers back on the clock faces. In another they help put clocks in boxes on a conveyor belt by matching analog and digital times. One of my favorite activities involved the Tick Tock Town clock tower. Children can move the hands on the clock to change the screen from night to day. They can also move the sun on the screen, making it set and then watch the moon rise while the clock hands move to show the time changing.

Tillie’s Time Shop doesn’t get into the basics of how to tell time but it’s a fun way to review the concepts in an interactive way. I’ve found that my kids tend to pick up concepts through play just as well (if not sometimes better) as they do through a structured lesson. The story is told in rhyme and the narration has been well done. Children will find extra dialogue as they tap on the screen and the illustrations are colorful and fun. You’ll find two versions of the app in iTunes. One is HD and universal, designed for both the iPad and the iPhone. The other is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad but not universal.

Price when Reviewed: $2.99 for HD and $1.99 for standard

WebMD Baby

WebMD Baby was released earlier this month and it is awesome! Seriously one of the best “baby” apps I’ve seen to date

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
