Creating games is simple. When starting out, there are three simple steps: 1) Create a Game!, 2) Record Questions, and 3) Trace The Answers. When you choose the Create a Game! option, you will be given the option to add a photo from the camera (take a new photo within the app), an album, the web, or by drawing one. Once you have added your photo you can choose to Add Questions. Adding questions is a lot of fun, parents can record their voice asking the question…For example, if you add a photo of your son, you can then record the question, “Where is your nose?”. The really cool part is the next step – Tracing The Answer. Now, you can trace the “answer area” on the photo, in this case, you would trace a circle around your son’s nose! I thought that this was a really great teaching tool and such a cool way to play a game with your child!
I thought that the drawing section of this app was wonderful. There is a mug on the bookshelf that has all sorts of drawing tools – simply touch the mug to begin. When drawing a game, you can create anything you want…math questions, grammar lessons, animal games…if you can draw it, it can be a game! I thought it would be perfect for asking math questions, for example, “2 + 2 =” and then the child has to answer the question when it is asked aloud. Parents could also create grammar questions for their kids, or really a question in any school subject. I thought it would be fun to create games for little ones like, “Guess The Animal” or “Where Is?”. You can name your games and even add background music (or choose no music), as well as share them via Facebook, Twitter or email.
In addition to the games that you create as a parent, there are also a couple games that come pre-loaded, as well as a TinyTap Demo (shows you how to create games). If you would like to check out more games, you can visit the Market. In the Market there are a variety of free games, as well as games that cost (which you can buy through in-app purchasing). I like how all the games tell you the appropriate age for each one. Each game also has a star rating and shows reviews; and there is a search feature as well. Parents can share games that they are interested in via Facebook, Twitter and email, too!
I really loved TinyTap! I will definitely be using this app with my 2 year old son. I have already made a few games and cannot wait to start playing with him. I would highly recommend this app to parents, be sure to check it out!
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this app for review purposes.
