Taking a road trip for the holidays? Own an iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch or portable DVD player? You might want to consider trying out a set of ViewSticks. They are simple metal sticks that attach to the poles in your car’s headrest. The sticks are shaped to hold your device upright in front of the headrest for easy viewing. Now an iPad just sitting on them won’t stay put, there’s now way. That’s why the ViewSticks come with four strong rubber bands that you can attach to the sticks and wrap around your iPad. There are also suction cups that can be attached to a smooth hard case or the device itself. Once you’ve got everything positioned correctly your expensive device will be nice and secure.
Here is what I liked about the ViewSticks. The entire kit is compact and easily portable. Everything you need comes in a small sack that can be stored in your glove box. I also like that my iPad can be held up while it’s still in it’s case. This is a plus for me because it’s a big pain to take ours out of it’s case. I like that the Sticks work with all sorts of devices, not just Apple ones. I like that we can take the iPad in the car for reading or viewing and I can keep it away from my van’s nasty floor. I’d have no problem putting our iPad in the van, hooking it up and letting my older children use it that way on a long trip. In fact I’m planning on doing just that when we travel later in the month. However, even though the ViewSticks keep things attached to the headrest they won’t be hooked up anywhere near my toddler. ViewSticks do a great job holding and displaying your device but I advise you to use your best judgement when you set it up near your children. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from having four little ones it’s that they can usually always reach the things you don’t think they can. Particularly if they’re expensive things!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary set of ViewSticks for testing out in my dirty, nasty van. And yes, they did indeed keep my iPad from becoming dirty, nasty or worse – lost.
