About Me I am a semi-sane stay at home mom of four who’s married to a smart techie fellow. He talked me into an iPhone (followed by an iPad, replaced by the iPad 2 after an unfortunate incident involving the roof of our van) and I’ve been a happy woman ever since. The phone has been great for me, great for the kids and we’re having a good time playing around with the endless applications. This website began as an excuse to surf around in iTunes looking at apps but has turned into much more. I’ve been lucky enough to see the site grow leaps and bounds since it began in January 2009. I’ve also had a chance to contribute and add my two cents to several other websites including Babble.com and Momtastic.com. It’s a surreal feeling to know that you are all out there and I often wonder what you’d think if you could see the mashed potatoes all over the kitchen floor or me jotting down app notes while I wait at the bus stop. Usually wearing sweats or pajama bottoms with a guaranteed stain of some sort on my shirt. I am honored and grateful to first and foremost be mom to my four fantastic kids and I humbly thank you all for bearing with me and continuing to read! ~Heather Leister
What I Do I review iPhone apps for moms or anyone else looking to tap into the practical, personal or parenting potential of their iDevice. Oooh! That sounded good! There are over 2,000 app reviews on this site and I’ve seen the market explode over the past few years as developers have realized the potential in apps for parents and their children. My goal is to provide practical reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. I review apps that I use myself but I also receive app review requests from developers. I try to review all they send me unless it’s obviously not a fit for my readers. Doing this I’ve discovered apps I absolutely love but wouldn’t have found otherwise. I’ve also discovered apps I cannot ever see myself, or another mom, using. I’ll give you my honest opinion about an app, whether it’s a review request or one I’ve found on my own. I’m going to always try and find something positive to say though, I guess that’s just the mom in me. One last thing. The iTunes App Store is like a giant box of chocolates offering a little something for everyone. I love the chocolates with butter cream centers but you may prefer something with a crunchy nougat. So please, read my reviews but before you spend that $1.99 follow the link at the end of the review and check out the iTunes’ details to make sure you get the sweet treat you really wanted.
* iPhone Mom Contributors * Thanks to all of you wonderful readers the site has grown beyond what I can now keep up with on my own. I’ve begged several family members and friends to join me as “iPhone Mom Contributors”. Their help is going to preserve that little bit of sanity I’m still holding on to as the website continues to grow and my youngest works her way through the terrible twos. Erin is my sister and will be writing app reviews and the Friday Findings posts. Nikki, my sister-in-law is also going to help with the app reviews. My good friend JoDee let me smooth talk her into handling the contests and giveaways on the site. She’ll be posting about promocode giveaways and handling the emails to the winners. I twisted their arms and had them write “bios” for the site so you could get to know them a little bit, here they are in their own words.
Erin – Erin is a stay at home mom to one extremely energetic and curious toddler. She is not sure which one of them loves her iPad more, but does know that she would be slightly less sane without it. Constantly amazed by how much her little one learns while playing with different apps, Erin has become a big supporter of using technology as a learning tool for little ones.
Nikki – Nikki is a retired bookkeeper, starting her second career as a stay at home mom. She lives with her husband, son and yellow lab in North Carolina. She loves technology and gadgets – and her iPad is one of her favorites. One of her favorite things about apps is that they are so versatile – there are apps for teaching kids, apps for entertainment, apps for hobbies…She definitely believes the phrase “There’s an app for that…”
JoDee – When is come to the gadgets, gizmos and whats-its of the modern world, her three kids keep her up to speed. Whether its watching yet another iTunes card go up in smoke while music downloads at the speed of sound, teenage blogging, term paper research or the youngest studying spelling and math facts, she tries to ignore how many hours are logged on the hand held devices in her home. All that being said, the growth and learning the gizmos provide never cease to amaze her.
A Few Minor Details: At the end of my review I’ll post the seller’s name and the price I paid for the app when I reviewed it. Something that was $3.99 when I reviewed it might only be $1.99 now so it’s worth a look on iTunes before you decide against an app based on price alone. You will also see the “Requirements” needed to run the app. This will tell you the iOS your device needs to have and whether it will work on and iPhone, iPod Touch and/or iPad.

WebMD Baby was released earlier this month and it is awesome! Seriously one of the best “baby” apps I’ve seen to date
I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
