Wiglington and Wenks Website – with Membership Giveaway

July 12, 2010

I was recently asked to review a website for children, www.wiglingtonandwenks.com. It’s a virtual world that lets children travel around the world, meet historical figures and play games. Anyone can play on the website for free or you can become a member. Membership costs $5.99 a month and lets you access special features and locations within the virtual world. I’ve been known to hop on Webkinz and play games to earn Kinz cash for my children but I’m not well versed in navigating through virtual worlds. For this review I turned to my 10 year old daughter. I set her loose on Wiglington and Wenks for a few days and then asked for her thoughts.

Wiglington & Wenks Review by Miss E

On the website there is an evil Count who has stolen magic maps. The magic maps let the map bearer travel through space and time but he created a magic portal and famous people were sucked into it. They were put into different times and places than what they’re used to and they forgot their memories. Your job in the game is to find the lost people and help them regain their memories. You can travel to Big Ben, Madagascar, the Great Barrier Reef and other places. You’ll also have special gadgets to help you but I haven’t figured out how to use those. Wherever you go there is a guide who gives you information about where you are and what you need to do. You can visit the cinema and watch movies about the histories of the Count, Wiglington and Wenks. If you join the squad you’ll have special quests for tracking the count. I liked being on the squad and looking for clues.

It’s very easy to navigate through the website. Other websites are slow when there are a lot of people on them but here my character always walked fast and the site didn’t feel slow. My favorite place to visit is Madagascar because I earned points on two games and earned a certificate so I could adopt pets when I travel. What I didn’t like about the site was that the games are hard to play when I don’t use a mouse. I also ran out of money fast and I’m not sure how to make more. I don’t think you can earn money by playing the games. I’m still exploring the website and having fun!Circle.jpg

Thanks for the review Miss E! From what I’ve read online members receive virtual currency every month so she needs to hold out a little longer to find money in her account. What I like about www.wiglingtonandwenks.com is the educational side to it and that it provides exposure for historical figures and locations around the world. If my children are going to be playing in a virtual world I’d prefer it’s one where they’re learning something!

The director of Wiglington and Wenks Worldwide has given me 5 one month memberships to give away. Anyone can try out the website for free but if you’re interested in trying out the membership perks please leave me a comment. Five winners will be randomly selected the evening of July 18th.

Oh, my daughter would love that. She really likes different virtual world sites, and she’s a bit of a history geek. This would be right up her alley.

I haven’t been on this website yet, but is it age appropriate for a 7 year old. He plays on webkinz and enjoys that.

Individual Text Tones for Contacts

My 9 year old daughter told me about an iOS 5 feature that I was totally unaware of until last week. Miss S. showed me how to set up individual text tones for my contacts.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
