Wii Party Video Game

December 26, 2010

Recently Nintendo was kind enough to loan us a copy of their game Wii Party and my kids very gladly stepped up to the challenge of trying the game out. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. We don’t have the best track record when it comes to “playing nicely” with Wii multi-player games. There have been some epic battles over Super Mario Brothers Wii, I rarely let them play that one together anymore. We had the game for about ten days and there were times when my kids played by themselves, in pairs or all together. We even had friends over in the mix a few times. I was pleasantly surprised that everyone got along during the games and they all seemed to be having a really good time. My kids are eleven, eight and six. The two oldest are girls and the six year old is a boy and they were each able to find mini games that appealed to them. Some games require cooperation and others are competitive but its always friendly and we didn’t have a single shouting match in the ten days we tried out the game. That’s huge.

There’s a terrific variety of games to be found in Wii Party. Some of the games will even take the action away from the screen and bring it to you. For example, there’s a game that has you lay your Wii remotes on a table. Each remote makes a different sound and you want to be the first person to grab the remote that matches what’s shown on the screen. There are over seventy different mini games. When I asked my kids what one of their favorite mini games was each of my kids mentioned hide and seek. They also enjoyed a rope swing game that had them swinging through the jungle seeing who could fly the farthest. Sometimes they launched themselves so high they ended up in outer space. When I asked them what they would change about the game they told me it needed more game boards on the board game island. This is a game where you move around an island on a game board. Along the way you’ll play mini games against other players. According to my kids it got a bit boring playing on the same board.

There was some sadness in our house when I sent Wii party back to Nintendo. It was a very big hit and I was so happy to find a game where my kids could all play together without squabbles. The kids were thrilled to find Wii Party under the Christmas tree last Friday, thank you Santa! If you’re looking for a game for multiple players of all ages, I definitely recommend giving Wii Party a try.

You can find additional Wii Party details on Amazon. Our copy was found at Walmart for $69.96 and it included a bonus Wii remote.

Our family had the same problem with Super Mario Bros Wii! lol Too much fighting. Our girls love Wii party and they do fight less while playing it.

That makes me feel better, sometimes I wonder if it’s just my kids! They’ll get mad at me when I play with them because I’m always dying or not running fast enough. That might be a Wii disc that needs to get lost….

What do you think???

Chalk Walk is a very unique iPad app. It has been developed to help your children improve the pincer grip they use to hold a pencil.

What I Do

I review iPhone apps for moms. I have a decent grasp of techy things but the technical guts (for lack of a better word) of how the apps work are beyond me. So my reviews will be practical and purely subjective. Reviews for moms by a real life, actual mom. My kids will vouch for me.
