Your BFF During Pregnancy (that’s the full name of the app) is a clever little app. Although, I don’t even know if I’d call it an app because you only open it up the first time you use it…let me explain. When you open up Your BFF it will ask you for your name, email and due date. It will then ask you to choose a calendar that you’d like it to sync with and what day you’d like to see the BFF notes. Once you’ve set that up it’s time to sync. You’ll be shown a notification telling you to make sure your calendar is private because if it’s not then others will see your BFF notes and your happy news is going to be out of the bag. Once the syncing is complete you won’t be opening up the app again. Why? Because of all the information is now on your iPhone’s calendar. You’ll see one note a week leading up to your due date.
Your BFF isn’t a medical app, you won’t find pregnancy information telling you how big your baby is getting or how much weight you should be gaining. The whole idea is practical and humorous information, things your BFF would tell you. Notes appear on your calendar every week (on the day that you selected) and range from reminders to find an infant CPR class, getting organized, final preparations and information about blood cord banking. Links are included in each note and you’ll find some unexpected information that you might not even know you needed.
Your BFF During Pregnancy is a unique approach to the pregnancy app and it was refreshing to see something besides the typical countdown. I really like the way it integrates with the existing iCal calendar. Since there are no extra graphics, etc. it makes sense to simplify and streamline the process. If you’re already going to be looking at your calendar why create one more thing for a mom to have to do?
The only thing that gave me pause about this app was it’s price tag. I understand that it’s a unique concept and I don’t have any idea what it took to get the programming just right, but it seems high.
