The 10 Fingers + app offers an intuitive game which allow kids to become familiar with numbers in a fun and interactive way. Once kids have mastered counting, there is also an introduction into simple addition. Here’s how the app works: by using the innovative multitouch feature on the iPad screen, when a child puts 3 fingers onto the screen, the digit “3” displays, and the word “three” is pronounced! I thought that this was a great way for kids to learn in a fully hands-on interactive setting. The app is geared towards children ages 3 through 6 years old.
I like how the app features a couple different learning modes to make the learning experience accessible for various ages. First, there is a “Free” mode which allows children to explore numbers at their own pace. Then, there is a “Challenge” mode which will ask children questions, which in turn must be answered by placing the correct number of fingers onto the screen (simple addition). The app is inspired by Montessori principles, and can be enhanced by using a wooden number toy that interacts with the iPad (which could stimulate your child’s senses even more). I like how this app addresses several learning skills all at once: the concept of numbers and quantity, visual and auditory recognition of numbers, the concept of addition, and motor skills.
I really enjoyed the 1o Fingers + app. I would definitely recommend this app to parents of young children who are learning to count or learning simple addition. I will definitely be using this app with my 3 year old son!
