October 2013 Newsletter

October is such a great time of the year for so many reasons; humid summer days give way to beautiful foliage and cool fall breezes. Kids are settled into their school routines and Halloween is just around the corner. Another reason why we love October here at theiphonemom.com is because it is National Bullying/Cyerbullying Prevention Month, which is a cause that is very important to us. Of course, as avid tech-users and app testers, we love exposing our little ones to the latest and greatest in the technology world and want them to know how to safely and properly use age-appropriate devices. That said, we feel that it is crucial as parents and care-givers to instill the importance of safe Internet/technology use in our children and have discussions about the dangers of cyberbullying. The topic was once again brought to my attention when two of my little ones came home from school with kid-friendly information about the subject. I loved that these discussions had made their way into the classroom and believe that the more this topic is discussed with children, the better off they will be.

If this is something that you want to talk to your children about (which we recommend) but aren’t quite sure how to approach the topic, here are some great resources from the Stomp Out Bullying Campaign, including a tip sheet on “How to Understand and Handle Cyberbullying.” We hope that some of these tips will help spark meaningful conversations in your home and lead to safe, fun Internet/device usage for years to come!

Below are some highlighted apps from the past few week’s reviews. Enjoy!
