Your kids will think learning the alphabet is “Out of this World” with ABC Galaxy: English Alphabet Learning Games for Kids. This app takes phonics to a whole other level of fun. Your child will learn alphabet letters, letter sounds, and word recognition while navigating their way through fun and challenging obstacles in outer space, on land and at sea. With over 42 levels of one player games and 16 levels of two-player fun, your child will have hours of space-themed alphabet adventure!
I have played the first two levels of this app which is grouped into ABC and DEF. Each of these levels starts off with a letter recognition game. The narrator will say the name of a letter and the player must complete some sort of action to indicate which letter the narrator says. For example, in the ABC level, you must use your finger to aim and shoot a rocket at the letters that are floating around on the screen. Once you master that level, you move on to word recognition games for each letter. A bunch of pictures of words that start with a particular letter move around the screen and, again, you must perform some action to tag the word that was spoken. In the DEF level, you must use your finger to slide a red disk across the screen, hitting the pictures the narrator says. Finally, there is an extra challenging level that tests your knowledge of all three letters from that round. The ABC level has a chain of space rocks that are blocking the words and letters and you must use rockets to blast through the rocks to the words and letters you need. All of the levels are timed and the faster you complete them, the more stars you earn for that level.
The two-player games are very similar to the one-player game, only you are faced off against an opponent to see who can hit the target pictures or letters first. The players sit at opposite ends of the iPad and have their own arrows that they use to aim and shoot. The player with the most points before time runs out wins!
This game was really a lot of fun. The games were challenging enough to hold my interest but easy enough that an older preschooler or elementary aged child will have no problems playing. It did take a bit of practice to get the feel for how to aim the arrows and to get the timing down for releasing the rockets and such. Younger children or children who frustrate easily might need a little encouragement to master that part of the game, but it is totally attainable. This is a really fun and unique way for children to learn alphabet letters, letter sounds and new vocabulary. I am a big fan of learning games that can incorporate some “arcade-type” elements into play because we all know that kids really love those! ABC Galaxy does that wonderfully and your children are sure to spend hours learning and loving it with this app!
