Algebra Explained is a new series of apps that makes learning Algebra entertaining. Each app covers a different chapter which is then broken down into lessons. The lessons are presented by Jamie. Jamie is an enthusiastic host and she has a knack for explaining Algebra in practical, easy to understand terms. The tag line for Algebra Explained is “Not Your Average Algebra Lessons” and that is very, very true. Jamie takes the Algebra concepts and connects them to real world topics.

Each lesson has a “Teach Me” video starring Jamie. After you’ve watched the lesson you can go through a set of study cards that are specific to that lesson. Each study card comes with the beginning of a phrase that relates to the lesson’s concepts. You can fill in the blank yourself or have the answer revealed. You also have the ability to create your own unique study cards. Any of the cards can be saved or emailed out to others. After going through the study cards you’ll find a practice section for each lesson. This is where you’ll find exercises that relate to the lesson concepts. When you go to solve a problem you can work out your answers on screen with a scratch paper feature. The scratch paper can even be changed to look like graph paper. Algebra Explained tracks your correct answers and you’ll be able to see your progress in a history log.

The Algebra Explained apps are smart, fun and thorough. I’ll definitely be using them with my middle schooler.
