What happens to all those letters when kids leave their DESKS? They become EXPLORERS!  Deskplorers “Jump in a Book” is a new series of games for 6 to 9 year olds that blends storytelling and gaming for an iPad learning experience.  In this first season, The Deskplorers have jumped into a history book.  Graphics are figure and letter-based characters in a 2D universe.  Made up of everyday real-life textures, its as if the kids used pieces of paper and objects on their desks to create a world all of their own.  Consisting of five episodes they will travel into the past and encounter  Knights, Pirates, Egyptians and Cavemen.

”Knights” (episode 1)- Characters Tom, Lea, Spoon and Scrabot followed Bratty, Moody and Brutus into the history book.  They landed in the Knights time where the king organizes the annual tournament…Discover what this adventure holds for the Deskplorers!  This episode contains 6 chapters, including more than 200 images and 6 animations.

**Note: I must admit I really liked the looks of this app so I did a little more searching and found that they offer a try-it chapter.   “The Beginning” is available for free on iPad(HD) and iPhone/iPod touch.  I accessed the iPod version through the App Store on my device, but notice the HD version for iPad is also listed on iTunes.

*A note from Heather – I checked it out too and if you search Deskplorers in iTunes you’ll see that all episodes are available as separate iPad and iPod/iPhone versions.  The codes for this contest are for the iPad.  This really does look like an adorable app.
