When I volunteer at the school I’m always sure to find at least one child in the the class who is a dinosaur NUT. Any grade K- 6, I haven’t been disappointed yet with the facts they are enthusiastically willing to share. Why? May be its the idea that we outlasted those massive beasts or maybe its the thought that after all these years we could still find evidence of them right in our own back yard. If you have a little paleontologist up for an adventure that won’t leave your begonias withering in a heap, then send them on a dig with Dino Dog Doug.
Dino Dog – A Digging Adventure with Dinosaurs begins in a jungle far away when Bonnie the Bear meets Dino Dog Doug. He’s just finished burying a bone he found in a nearby building, which turns out to be a dinosaur bone from a museum. He might be a little limited in his knowledge of dinosaurs and at first he’s more likely to bury every bone he finds, but with some coaching from the knowledgeable Bonnie he uses his expert digger skills to go from hider to finder. Tap to dig and Doug will move, up and down, side to side he can go anywhere you direct him. Together you find mystery clues that show where to go to find fossils. Encounter hard soil that you tap many times to dig or maybe you’ll be lucky and find dig claws that make the job easy, they even allow him to dig through rock. Other helpful tools are waiting to be discovered too. There are three exciting chapters with multiple levels for lots of game play fun as you trek around the globe. Through your adventure locate more than a dozen dinosaurs to collect for your museum displays and learning enjoyment.
Digging is just the start of your adventure. Bonnie guides you through the steps of carefully removing and cleaning the bones hidden inside the fossils you found. Then you assemble the entire skeleton for display. Tapping on an assembled dinosaur brings up details about the animal, giving their name, information about their size and what they ate, different physical characteristics and what time they would have lived.
I was so impressed with the seamless flow of the app from adventure movie, to arcade game, to educational tutorial. The high-end graphics were crisp and with a very limited wait to load new adventures I had no snags or hic-ups. Young children could easily maneuver through the app without parent help and older children will still be entertained with the learning experience. What more can I say, I liked digging with Doug! I think your child will too.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of the app for review purposes.
