Does this scenario sound familiar? After a long day of work and school your family is finally at home all together. You think, “Finally! We can unwind and spend some quality time together!” You look to your left and your husband is busily surfing on his lap top. To your right, your teenage daughter is busy pinning on Pinterest. Your school-aged son and daughter are playing a video game on the Xbox and let’s not forget your preschooler who is engaged in the latest episode of some Disney Channel cartoon he is watching on the iPad. So much for quality family time, right? What if I told you that your family could combine their love for all things digital AND spend time together? It’s time for a Family Face Off! This game combines classic family favorite games and puts them together in an app that you can play on your mobile device!
There is a free download option for this app which allows you to play one session of the game each day. This is the option that I am basing my review on. You can also pay $4.99 to unlock the full version with unlimited play. Before the fun can start, you must gather the players and form two teams. Each team can come up with their name, team color, and team mascot! Once that information is decided and entered, the app will randomly select three games for your family to play. Game options include favorites such as Trivia, Memory Match, Charades, Heads Up, Pictionary, and Catch Phrase. Play alternates between teams for three rounds. Whichever team has accumulated the most points at the end of the three rounds wins!
Here is what I love about this app: first of all, it is a fun and easy way for your family to spend time together. There is little prep and set up so your valuable time together is maximized. Second, for some reason anything that is done on a mobile device is more fun so kids will want to play! Third, this app combines several family favorites in one eliminating the need to buy and store several different board games. There is no time like the present to make family time a priority, so put away the individual electronic devices and gather the family around one iPad and get your game on! There is always time for a Family Face Off!
