iPad Screenshot 3Scott’s Polar Trip:  Scott’s Polar Trip is a new original storybook app brought to you by Square Igloo, the publisher of Scott’s Submarine (which was a big hit)!  This storybook app is rich in interactive content, and features beautiful illustrations by Matt Roussel.  In this adventure, Scott arrives at the North Pole on his submarine, accompanied by Jazz the cat – and they embark on a journey to discover how the people live in the Arctic Circle.  The story features four original games that are drawn from Inuit life and customs: 1) the blanket toss, 2) building an igloo, 3) looking for murre eggs, and 4) setting up an inukshuk.  There are two reading levels in this app: simple words for very young children (3-4 year olds), and a more developed vocabulary and longer text for older children (5-7 year olds).  As a companion to the story, there are 20 learning cards with photos that feature informative content and high-resolution photos that will teach about animals of the Arctic Circle, the splendors of the Far North and the traditions of the Inuit people.  If you are looking for an educational, fun interactive storybook for your kids – be sure to check out Scott’s Polar Trip!  Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. iPhone Screenshot 4Spelling Star:  The Spelling Star app is an easy-to-use learning tool to help students become better spellers.  This app is perfect for practicing spelling and sight words for school, homeschool, and spelling bees.  With Spelling Star, the idea is for kids to practice spelling words until they are mastered.  You are able to actually enter words that kids are studying at school or home and have your children practice their own specific list of words.  If you have kids who could benefit from a practice spelling app – be sure to check out Spelling Star!  Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. iPhone Screenshot 3My 1st Family Album:  The My 1st Family Album app is aimed at introducing children to family members and close friends, who may live far away or even next door.  You are able to upload photos of family members and friends and type in their names (names can be typed in multiple languages).  Parents may enter up to two names per person (could be “Daddy” and “Daddy’s first name”, or a name in two different languages).  You may also record a voice to match with each name, and input up to four photos per person.  There is a flashcard function that will present the photos in a slideshow.  When your children are becoming more familiar with the photos of their family and friends, you can use the quiz function to really test their knowledge – i.e. Where is Daddy?
