I have a confession to make- I think I may love the Disney Princesses more than the 5, 7 and 9 year old girls who helped me to evaluate this app. I grew up watching all of the classic Disney Princess movies and loved each one more than the last. When I started to see previews for the latest movie, Frozen, I knew I had to check it out (and bring along at least one of the little ones so I didn’t look like a crazy person in the movie theater). Since we don’t see movies in theaters too often, I thought it would be a good idea to get the kids familiar with the plot and characters before we went, and the Disney Frozen Storybook Deluxe app was the perfect way to do that.
Spoiler Alert! This app goes through the entire plot of the movie, so if you and your little ones do not want to know what happens in the movie, just don’t play the story in its entirety! But no worries, I won’t be giving away any plot twists and turns in this review, so please feel free to read on. For us, I knew the kids wouldn’t mind knowing what happens in the movie and it would probably make the actual movie experience more enjoyable, so they watched the entire storybook and LOVED it. The app beautifully tells the tale of princess sisters Anna and Elsa who live in the mountainside kingdom of Arrendale. Elsa has a magical power to create snow and ice that had to be hidden from Anna (and the entire kingdom) until it is accidentally revealed at her coronation. Throw in a handsome prince, and unlikely hero and a hilarious snowman and you’ve got a new instant classic from the Disney collection!
The app tells the story from the points of view of both Elsa and Anna, and users can rotate their device to change the perspective to the other sister. Each page is interactive and animated, and some feature actual clips from the movie. In addition to the movie clips and animations, there are also fun activities to play throughout. There are six puzzles that feature matching ice blocks of various shapes and sizes, as well as a drawing activity in which users can create icy works of art using Elsa’s magic. The app is a little on the pricey side at $6.99, but that’s a lot less than a movie ticket these days, and the storybook is very detailed so I still think it’s a good buy.
If you haven’t already figured it out, I absolutely loved this movie and the fantastic app that goes along with it. If you haven’t already done so, go see the movie and then bring the fun home with you and download this app!
