I recently called a family meeting about nutrition.  I was sick and tired of going to the grocery store and being nagged for things like donuts and Pop-Tarts and Fruit Snacks (which, by the way, are neither FRUIT nor a SNACK).  So, Monday night I sat my kids down with the “My Plate” nutrition guide and we had a lesson on the different parts of a healthy meal and the types of foods that went in each category.  Now my kids are really excited about nutrition and they enjoy planning healthy meals for themselves.  They actually break down their meals and try to include something from each category.  I love their enthusiasm and I LOVE that I now have an app that will reinforce and hopefully prolong their excitement about eating healthy!

iLearn with Bo: Nutrition and Healthy Eating! is an enjoyable app that is a fun way to introduce young children to nutrition.  Through 3 fun sorting games, your child can learn about the different food groups and what belongs in each food group.  In the “Feed the Bear” game, you must place the foods Bo asks for in the bear’s picnic basket.  Children will learn to distinguish between edible foods and non-edible items or healthy foods and junk food.  She may ask for only healthy foods or only foods from the “Grains” group.  The “Magic Potions” game asks children to sort the foods into the correct mixing bowl according to the picture of the food that represents a specific food group.  For example, the bowl with the picture of Swiss cheese on it would take anything from the dairy group.  The third game asks the child to use their knowledge from the other two games to create a healthy and balanced meal for a penguin’s birthday party.  Each of the games has 3 levels to choose from so that your child can continue to be challenged as they get older or as their knowledge of nutrition increases.

I appreciate that this developer has recognized the importance of teaching children healthy eating habits early and has released an app that helps parents do it.  Through fun, interactive games children can explore nutrition and use what they learn through play in their daily lives.  I really like how the different levels allow this app to grow with your children.  The one thing that I recognized from my nutrition lesson with my kids was that children WANT to be healthy and it is crucial that we do our part to educate them and model healthy lifestyle choices.  iLearn with Bo Nutrition and Healthy Eating is a wonderful tool to assist us in doing just that.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this app for review purposes.

This looks interesting. Bo looks like the girl from the show Bo on the Go. Do you know if they are related?
