Jixu Math combines Math practice with a strategic board game. The board game itself has been designed for two players, not one versus the iPad. This way children can play with each other like they would a regular game. The game has five different levels and the way you move the pawns and the strategy involved ties in with solving Math operations. The levels work with addition, subtraction and multiplication. They’ve been designed so that you begin with addition and work your way up to the most difficult multiplication level. Each level has a suggested year range which is helpful when figuring out where your child should begin.

The levels come with video instructions and children will want to watch these in order to understand the rules of the game. It might take several viewings to catch all of the nuances, I’m still not sure I’ve got it all figured out but children are always quicker about catching on. The app has an overall clean, fresh design. I like the concept of using the iPad while still getting children to play together.
