KidZoo Books is a fun collection of eBooks for children. Whether you are looking for a silly story to share during some mommy and me time or a soothing bedtime story to wind down at night, KidZoo Books has something for you! This app comes with one free story with the initial download and eight other stories available to purchase in-app. Each of the stories are original and professionally narrated for your reading enjoyment!

I reviewed two of the books available in this app: Doctor Nimble Ned, which is the free book and My Brother and I. Nimble Ned is a rather silly story about Ned, who is the doctor of agility. He can do practically any physical stunt he sets out to do, including riding a unicycle while yo-yoing or roller skating while playing the banjo. He was so proud of his abilities that he often bragged about how nimble he was. One day a distraught octopus comes to his door seeking help for how to effectively use his eight arms without getting tangled up. Dr. Ned dismisses the octopus, telling him he is far too busy to help. The next morning, Dr. Ned meets his match with a curious spoon that he has difficulty using. His confidence shaken, Ned suddenly feels empathy toward the octopus and sets out to find a way to master the use of a spoon and hopefully help the octopus at the same time.

My Brother and I is a heartwarming story of two brothers who often feel like they have nothing in common. They have different interests and personalities. The little brother looks up to his older brother and wants desperately to be his friend, but all they seem to do is argue. He seems to wonder if his older brother likes him at all. Their relationship is put to the test one day when a bully starts picking on the younger brother. The older brother immediately comes to the aid of his younger brother and saves him from the bully. The younger brother realizes that his older brother really does love him, and even though they are different, they can love each other anyway.

If you have ever heard the adage “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, it would apply to this app except I would change it to “Don’t judge an app by its free book.” I really did not like the Dr. Nimble Ned story. I felt that it was kind of disjointed, long, and a little strange. I didn’t really feel like kids could relate to the story and my kids said it was weird. Luckily, I decided to give this app a second chance and I purchased My Brother and I. This story is a gold-medal winner in my opinion. The story is told in rhyming prose, which kids love, and the story line is very applicable to things that kids deal with in their own lives. The illustrations are beautiful as well. My kids loved this story and it has been my four year old’s favorite bedtime story all week. Each of the stories available for purchase range in price from $0.99 to $3.99 and have read myself and read-to-me options. Without having read the other stories in the collection, I hesitate to give this app my enthusiastic approval. However, I absolutely loved the second story I purchased and for the $0.99 I paid for that story, I would say that this app is worth downloading for that story alone.
