OctoPlus is a great early math skills app for children.  With OctoPlus, kids can begin learning essential math skills with fun and engaging math games.  This app is based on an adaptation of Turtle Invaders, which is a 2014 Gold Winner of the Mom’s Choice Award for Best in Family-Friendly Products.  I thought that this app would be great for kids who are beginning to learn addition.

In OctoPlus, kids will dive deep underwater into an interactive gaming environment filled with fun math games.  The app features both a drill and a challenge mode, and allows children to improve based upon their own individual learning ability and pace.  In addition to learning early math skills, the app is also designed to improve visual attention, timing, coordination and control.  I really like how the app is also designed to help children with motor or cognitive delays  – parents can even use this switch-accessible app to reinforce Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals!  Children with motor limitations who use an external switch such as TabAccess can connect through a Bluetooth switch interface to use the app.  I think that is awesome!  I really love the customization options available within OctoPlus.

OctoPlus will help children increase their math confidence and competence while assisting them with common core math skills.  The Parent Zone is available to help parents (as well as teachers) stay connected to their child’s progress and is great for allowing parents to see where their child needs extra help.  Kids will be motivated to continue learning with fun rewards from the OctoStore, such as cute characters, etc. that they can buy.  The app features Beginner, Experienced and Expert modes to accommodate children at various skill levels, and again there are fully customizable settings to adjust game options based on the skill level of each individual child.

I really enjoyed the OctoPlus app.  I appreciate the level of detail within the customization options.  I think that this app would be great for all children who are learning early math skills, and is the perfect option for those with motor/cognitive delays.
