I’ve mentioned many times that I have three daughters (and one son). My oldest girls are twelve (almost thirteen) and nine (almost ten) and it can be so tricky to find television, movies and music that is both entertaining, “cool” and appropriate for them. I could go on and on about the state of the media and what it’s doing to our girls but that’s for an entirely different blog. Today I get to talk about the the recently released 10th Anniversary edition of the Princess Diaries movie, something wonderful that my girls have fallen in love with. It’s been released by Disney in a DVD+Blu-Ray combo pack with Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement and my girls have been watching them over and over. The first movie might be ten years old but it still feels fresh to me. I think Miss E and Miss S like the idea of a modern princess who is just an average, every day girl, making mistakes and learning along the way. I know they’re also enjoying the elements of romance but it’s all very age appropriate and there’s nothing objectionable at all in these films. They both have a G rating, how many cartoons even get a G rating nowadays? These are films that I feel good about letting my girls watch.
The combo set includes three discs. Bonus features for Princess Diaries include a behind the scenes featurette called ” A New Princess”, eight deleted scenes, outtakes and bloopers and “The Ultimate Tea Party” with audio commentary by Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway. The Princess Diaries 2 bonus features include deleted scenes, a “Find Your Inner Princess” personality quiz, commentary by Julie Andrews and Garry Marshall, Bloopers and a music video by Kelly Clarkson.
If you’ve never seen the Princess Diaries now is a great time to check out the movie and its sequel. If you’ve seen them before it’s a great time to grab it for your collection, especially if you have young daughters. Mine give it a whole hearted recommendation!
The suggested retail price for the 3-Disc Blu-Ray Combo Pack is $29.99. I found two different listings on Amazon.com, both seemingly for the same product but for different prices. You’ll want to check out both before you buy to make sure you get the right edition but I couldn’t spot the difference.
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this movie title from Walt Disney Home Entertainment for review purposes.
