The app opens to a great map representing these United States. I started right off with game Play thinking I’d take the Refreshing Dip level in no time and quickly work my way through Boiling Water and Get Out. Guess what? I’m still not out and I’ve only earned a three star rating in the Steam Bath. This app is fast paced and challenging with multiple levels to keep your interest. Prompts appears across the top of the screen and might say “Augusta is the capital of”. Georgia, right. Now the fun begins a set of states pop up on the screen and you have to swipe the correct state. That’s easy with a state like Idaho that has a very recognizable shape, but Colorado and Wyoming are both pretty rectangular so you might have to determine your answer based on the location of the capital city. You have to be quick too because if they fall to the bottom of the screen before you make your selection you get a strike. Three strikes and you’re out and back you go to the menu.
I got my three star ranking in the Steam Bath at the Hot Springs because its mostly the western states and I know them best. As I move east I still do well but there are some I just didn’t remember. Thankfully the map also has four review destinations. At Karaoke Canyon a rappin’ beat will review each state and its info to help auditory learners. Maybe the Flashcard Forest is more along your learning style. Both of them are great review for Matching Mountain and Memory Marshland. I think eNovate Media Solutions did a nice job of incorporating diverse teaching methods.
With some more review and practice I’m sure our family will be gaining a bunch of Park Rangers badges and moving on to higher levels soon. State Swipe does a great job at teaching the states, their capitals, their shape and the abbreviations. Our family had a lot of fun with it and I know its really going to be a help for our 5th Grader when school starts again soon.
This app is also available for Android on Google Play
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this app for review purposes.
