Looking for something fun to do on those long car rides to grandma’s house for the holidays? Or maybe you need something to do at the airport while you wait for your flight home for Christmas. Whatever the reason, this app is a great way to pass the time! Stealth Checkers is an innovative twist on two classic board games. This game combines the movements of chess with the strategy of checkers and the end result is a challenging and addictive game that you are sure to love.
There are two ways you can play this game: capture all of your opponent’s men or capture your opponent’s king. Players roll two dice by tapping them. One has pictures of all of the chess pieces that tell you the direction your pieces can move. The other one is numbered 1 – 6 and tells you how many spaces you can move in that direction. So, for example, if you roll a bishop and a 4 then you can move diagonally 4 squares. Play alternates back and forth until someone either loses all of their pieces or has their king captured. You can play against the computer or against another player that is with you.
I love how this game can change with one roll of the dice. It is nearly impossible to come up with a game plan because you are totally at the mercy of the dice and you can’t really predict where your opponent will move. For younger players or someone who is not familiar with chess, the game provides hints to help you know where to move your pieces. Once you have selected the piece you want to use, gray lines outline all of the squares you have the option of moving to. If you want to choose a different piece, simply tap the piece again to unselect it and make another choice.
I am not a master chess player by any stretch of the imagination and this game really helped me better learn the chess pieces. I think this app is wonderful way to teach beginning chess players or children about the movements of the chess pieces without the other complexities of the chess game. Stealth Checkers is fun, easy to learn and will provide brain-stimulating entertainment for all ages. I will definitely be playing this app during my holiday travels.
