Here’s a simple game that will help reinforce your child’s spelling and reading skills. In TapOutTheWord your child is presented with an image on the screen and the name of the object is shown at the bottom of the screen. The app counts down and then letter blocks begin onto the screen. Your child must tap on the letter blocks that belong in the word and they must do it in the correct order. Once they’ve spelled out the word it’s time for a new image and new blocks. A simple concept but one that can be customized to fit your child’s age and skill level.
In TapOutTheWord’s settings you can adjust the number of blocks that drop down onto the screen and the speed they drop at. You may also decide whether or not you’d like the app to display the finished word and use background music. The paid version of the app contains 155 words (32 in the free version) and you may go through the list and remove any words from the list. The paid version will also allow you to import custom images into the game. When you do this you’ll be able to add your own pictures and words for your child. That feature makes the app’s word list endless.
I’m always pleased when an app includes customizations that allow apps to grow with children, or to be used by different aged siblings in one house. TapOutTheWord does this with the adjustable drop speed, the ability to edit the words and to add in your own images. It’s a simple app but it does what it says while throwing in the unexpected features.
A free version of TapOutTheWord is available but it is limited to 32 words and doesn’t have the ability to edit the word list or add custom images.
