My seven year old son is currently addicted to Turtle World. I asked him why he couldn’t tear himself away and he told me three things – the turtles, the power ups and it’s easy to play. Turtle World is a “physics based survival game” where a turtle named Frank is trying to survive obstacles, enemies and different terrain. To defeat the enemies players tap on the screen and Frank shoots his shell. If the shell hits an enemy it is destroyed but then Frank is left shell-less and you must tilt your iDevice to reunite the two. In addition to hitting enemies with his shell Frank the turtle should also aim for “PowerSnails”. These will give him special abiliites. Eating lettuce also does wonders for his special powers.

Turtle World connects with Game Center giving players access to leaderboards and achievements. There are currently five worlds and eight powerups with additional updates planned soon. I’m not sure how far my son has progressed in the game but he’s definitely enjoying the simple but engaging game play. I like the graphics and the educational turtle facts that pop up throughout the app.
