Yum-Yum Letters is a great app for young children who are learning to write. With Yum-Yum Letters, children can learn how to write while enjoying fun tracing games. I thought that this app was very cute, and would be encouraging to younger children.
As kids play various tracing games, they will learn the fundamentals of handwriting. There is a choice of scratching out letters on a frosty window or munching through alphabet imprinted leaves to get to the shiny red apple. Kids will trace as they guide the hungry caterpillar through a leaf, or help the smiling snowflake on the frosty window. I like how parents can also set up the app to follow ABC order or present letters developmentally based on starting point and/or type and difficulty of strokes. Parents can help make the app accessible for their child, and lessen frustration – which is great!
As children complete a series of letters, they will earn fun rewards, such as: helping the caterpillar turn into a beautifully decorated butterfly or making a snowflake from jewel-like ice crystals. In addition to being fun, the mini-games also serve as a way to build motor skills and develop the control children need to write.
I enjoyed Yum-Yum letters. I would recommend this app to parents who have children that are ready to develop their handwriting skills. I will definitely be playing this app with my 5 year old son.
